Ping Kelly is a graduate of Yunnan College of Art in Kunming, where she also qualified as a teacher. Although her personal preference is for abstract painting in oils, she has recently added acrylics to her repertoire. Since taking up residence in The UK, Ping has further developed her skills as a portrait painter and collaborated with other local artists to create a banner depicting St Winefride , which now hangs in St Winefride's School in Wibsey. Ping also creates water colours in the traditional style of her native China, and teaches these traditional skills to her pupils at Leeds Community Mandarin Chinese School. However, she has recently deviated from the Chinese figurative style to experiment with abstract forms using traditional brush painting techniques. The next stage in her work is to apply this combination of modern forms and traditional techniques to create abstract works in oil while retaining characteristics of the Orient. Ping has exhibited her work at the Art in the Garden exhibition in Sheffield, the Bexley Wing of St James' Hospital in Leeds and in the Artists' Open Show at Leeds City Gallery. Ping also features in the November 2010 edition of Yorkshire Living magazine. Take a tour through Ping's on-line gallery using the links at the top of this page. |
